Overview

Introducing (for the second time because, you know…COVID) The Princess and the Knight!

The Princess and the Knight follows the story of Princess Ada who is to be married to the wonderful Prince Lysander, but there’s a problem… She doesn’t love him… In fact she doesn’t know what love is full stop! When Ada is kidnapped for the upteempth time by her arch nemesis only days before her wedding and is rescued by the dashing knight, Lady Ellis, she will question everything she knows about love and learn what it truly is to love another person.

'It is a delight to see young practitioners reflecting on their own childhood, and responding by creating work they wish they had seen as children.' - Dr. Kerryn Palmer

The Princess and the Knight aims to normalise queerness in childhood, champion the voices of queer women and celebrate wholesome masculinity.

The who:

Inconceivable Productions are an emerging theatre company filled with whimsy, who are dedicated to creating engaging theatre design to be enjoyed by the whole family.

The Princess and the Knight was written by Brie Keatley as the capstone project of her MFA in Theatre. The show is directed by Katie Hill, a fellow VUW theatre graduate and successful comedienne. The two share a vision for this piece in wanting to create an engaging queer fantasy.

Also involved in the Princess and the Knight will be:

  • Set design by Jasmine Bryham
  • Publicity Material Design by India Worsnop
  • Marketing by Courtney Ellingham-Prebble
  • Costume design by Ruby Carter

Why we need your support

The Princess and the Knight will be running from the 29th of November – December 3rd at BATS Theatre. We are seeking $1000 to fund our ambitious costume and set design. Seeing as the show is inspired by such fantastical epics as The Princess Bride and Labyrinth, it seems natural that our design would follow suit. How incredible would it be to walk into the Dome at BATS Theatre and be transported to a magical world of princesses, dragons and knights? Your donation could help us achieve this!

Thank you for supporting queer artists and for helping educate our younger audiences.

The Princess and the Knight was first performed as part of the 2022 Six Degrees festival at BATS Theatre in January

Oh wow. I am utterly gobsmacked by the support and love you have shown me and my team thus far.

From the bottom of my queer little heart, thank you so so much. You are helping create queer and meaningful art for the whole family.

I've now applied a stretch goal which will allow me to pay my team a flat fee on top of their co-op! Let's give this wonderful team what they're owed!
