Overview

Otautahi walk lightly is a sustainable Fashion Show. Entrants will use a variety of fabrics made using sustainable processes and manufacturing. I am taking wool. I have made 5 different looks which are all made from 100% wool on hand looms.

I would like to ask for your support to ensure I make the trip and showcase the garments I have spent hours making and present wool and handweaving to the fashion world.

I am asking for financial support to get me from Motueka to Christchurch and for my accomodation for the week prior. 33% of your donation would be tax deductible as boosted is a registered charity. Even if you cannot donate sharing this page and my story with others will help.

And I need the money by the 20th August. Because it is soon I ask that you consider my appeal straight away.

We all know the fashion industry is not sustainable and creates huge amounts of landfill that do not break down.  The factories producing the clothing are often not employee friendly workplaces. And too much is being created.

I believe change is necessary as do the other participants in the Otautahi Walk Lightly Fashion Show so we have got together to showcase sustainable slow fashion, where clothing is valued and created to last.

I am a designer and hand weaver with nearly 20 years experience in wool. For Otautahi walk lightly I have handspun wool on my Ashford Spinning wheel, used my Ashford rigid heddle and created a variety of fabrics. I have tartans, netting, thick textures, fine, flimsy, and stripes. I am ready to showcase the versatility of wool, the usefulness of a loom and a spinning wheel. I am ready to present natural nz wool to the fashion world. Media will be at the event, magazines and newpapers. I am ready to showcase NZ wools in a catwalk fashion show. I will be extolling wools virtues, warmth, odor and fire resistance, versatility, sustainable farming practices, low carbon emissions and its biodegradability. Some designers will never had seen or thought about handwoven wool fashion and I am hoping it will inspire them.

Id just like to thank you for your time, your support (financial or otherwise) and please remember the urgency here, I need the funds by the 20th August for this to be a sucess.
