Overview

'A Hundred Words for Snow', by Tatty Hennessy.

"It's a bit weird to be sitting and drinking with a fit boy with your dad's ashes in your backpack."

15-year-old Rory has suddenly lost her father, who was a geography teacher and frustrated explorer. She sets out achieve his unfulfilled dream - to go to the North Pole.

This one-woman show is an extraordinary piece of new writing by Tatty Hennessy. Rory's journeys - UK to Svalbard, selfish to enlightened, child to adult - serve as parallels to humanity's relationships with the Arctic, and the environment as a whole. From 18th Century 'explorers' to current climatic trauma, overarching themes of discovery, change, and resilience accompany us the entire way. By turns funny, poignant, adventurous, historical and thought-provoking, 'A Hundred Words for Snow' captures the world-view of a girl growing up. Rory is pragmatic and emotional, observant and selfish, a conduit of humankind's relationship to our rapidly-changing environment.

Moose of Fire Productions are proud to have been granted the rights for this delightful tale, and look forward to presenting its New Zealand premiere. This Boosted campaign is to assist with production costs, which are otherwise self-funded.

We intend for a successful Dunedin season to be followed by a New Zealand tour - so your support will help us bring this show to you.

Oh, and there's polar bears.
