Verbatim
Last Tapes Theatre Company | Theatre
Overview
Two powerful and confronting plays reaching to the heart of murder.
In 2013 JustSpeak and Last Tapes Theatre Company produced VERBATIM in Auckland and Wellington - two short plays that allow some of New Zealand's most marginalised voices to tell their own stories, in their own words.
In 2014 the journey continues. We're hitting the road to bring VERBATIM to the rest of New Zealand, performing in regional theatres, schools, and prisons from Northland to Invercargill.
'Verbatim' (William Brandt and Miranda Harcourt) and 'Portraits' (Stuart McKenzie and Miranda Harcourt) were developed through interviews with violent offenders, their families, and their victims' families. The plays are a form of docu-drama, where the truth cannot be hidden because the words are not embellished.
An incredible cast of NZ industry leaders - Jodie Rimmer (In My Father's Den), Fraser Brown (Harry, Field Punishment No.1), and Rene Lyons (Nick: An Accidental Hero) embody multiple characters to paint a picture of violence and its endless repercussions.
A collaboration between Last Tapes Theatre Company and justice reform group JustSpeak, VERBATIM gives an intimate insight into lives filled with loss. Your support with this tour will help bring these works to some of New Zealand's most isolated communities.
