The Artist in Motion
Māpura Studios | Multi Discipline
Overview
It’s time. We’re dipping our toes into the world of video art and making four short films!
About The Artist In Motion.
At Māpura Studios, we believe it’s incredibly important that artists with disabilities are seen and heard in conversations of the contemporary visual art world. The Artist in Motion will give our artists the chance to explore their visual practices, stories and perspectives, through a brand new medium for them: film.
About Māpura Studios.
Māpura Studios is a creative space and art therapy centre located in central Auckland, with satellite locations across the greater city. We work with all ages, with those living with diversity and disability. We also do specialist work in schools, Auckland Men’s Prison and with stroke and autism as well as with individuals in an arts therapy capacity.
At Māpura we advocate for people living with disability and diversity, we enable our community and we know that creativity changes lives. Every mark, sound, movement has value, as we value the process over the product.
We are a charity, and we need your help to keep expanding our work.
Your support for this Boosted campaign is important, because for the artists involved, this project will lead to increased self-confidence, an ability to cope with new things and an agency of their own story and creative vision. This in turn creates more inclusive communities, where people with disabilities have control over their own stories and the way they are represented.
For The Artist in Motion, our creatives will get the chance to explore film as a medium. The concept and content will be created by Māpura artists and they will be the directors. In keeping with our philosophy, the work/decisions about each film will be made by the artist/s. It will be the artist’s vision and voice that is ultimately heard.
How you can help.
Please donate any amount you wish, towards the costs, so that our tutors can work closely alongside our artists assisting them physically where necessary, and teaching them about creative issues such as lighting, sound, animation and camera work.
We have already tried alternative funders but they have not committed to this mahi. We are hoping you will. Thank you.
