Overview

T?neatua is a small town 20mins outside of Whakat?ne. It has a cool skatepark that our local young people use every day. But the skatepark is getting old and worn, and there are not enough skateboards to go around.

HUR, a new flaxroots org, will be painting the skatepark from 18 March - 24 March and welcomes EVERYBODY to our Open Day on SATURDAY 25 MARCH, 12pm for Kai, Live DJ music and pro Skate Demonstration by Def.
This Project is designed to beautify and revitalise community space and support skateboarding as a physical creative art that improves confidence, fitness and co-ordination. The painting will be a collaboration between visual artists (and killer skateboarders) Te Marunui Hotene, Ali Selliman and Ahsin Ahsin.

The painting will be a bright and colourful depiction of T?neatua, the navigator of the Mataatua waka, and his pack of kur?, reflecting the history of our town. Everyone is invited to the Open Day on 25 March, where we will have Def pro skaters putting on a Skate Demonstration to inspire our taiohi, and live DJ Ramon 'Big Music' Narayan spinning beats all afternoon.

Please help us bring this Project to life! All money raised will go towards the Open Day, project costs, artist costs, and Skate Demo/Video by Def & HUR.

HUR is a new community organisation that nurtures creativity and language as part of a balanced wellbeing. The T?neatua Skatepark Project nurtures the physical art of skateboarding in T?neatua.  HUR was founded by Te Marunui Hotene and is run by Te Marunui and Erin Matariki.
We want to thank: Davey Painters for their generous sponsorship of paint; Def for kindly throwing in their skills and giveaways; our artists for their time and creativity; Ramon Narayan for his love and dope musical tastes. Thank you also to Dominic Hoey for his patience, expertise and ongoing support of our community projects. Ng? mihi aroha kia T?neatua, our beautiful hometown and community.
