Sōsisi Tales
A new Theatre show, created by Joshua Leota – Debuting at the 2026 Wellington Fringe Festival.
Three friends reunite after a year to embark on a pub crawl. What seems like catch-ups over a pint quickly becomes a confronting conversation that the group must have. Sōsisi Tales explores the concept of 'boys will be boys' and how society turns a blind eye to detrimental behaviours.

The Details
Sōsisi Tales
A new Theatre show, created by Joshua Leota – Debuting at the 2026 Wellington Fringe Festival.
The story follows Heinrich, Nela and Joshua, three friends who reunite after a year to embark on a pub crawl. What seems like three guys catching up over a few drinks quickly turns into confronting yet necessary conversations that the group must have. Inspired by true events, Sōsisi Tales explores the concept of 'boys will be boys' and how that excuses detrimental behaviours that society turns a blind eye to.
What began as a personal experience earlier this year evolved into a fresh, upbeat and awkward comedy that explores the good, the bad and the ugly of friendship. In August 2025, it debuted at Toi Whakaari's Whanake Festival as a 30-minute theatre show. Now it is set for its first official development season as part of the 2026 Fringe Festival.
The Impact
Everyone involved in this Project is an emerging artist, each bringing a unique set of skills to the table. Most of our team are recent graduates of Toi Whakaari, with two who are going into their second year. The opportunity to stage this show will give these artists the chance to utilise the skills they have spent the last couple of years honing while at Drama school, all within a professional, industry-standard environment.
Within the Theatre landscape in Aotearoa, there has been a fundamental shift in not just the vast amount of space that Māori and Pacific people occupy, but also in the vulnerability and courage to discuss topics that have been constantly swept under the carpet. Sōsisi Tales, although a comedy at its core, explores themes of domestic violence and toxic masculinity. How cycles of violence are passed down, and young men often do not have the language and the tools to deal with it.
By staging this show, we aim to create a platform for our rangatahi in Aotearoa to see themselves reflected on stage and foster a space that empowers and uplifts these communities.
Your support will make a huge impact on the next generation of artists. If you are able, please consider making a donation. If not, we would still love to see you at the debut of Sōsisi Tales at BATS Theatre, from 17-21 February 2026.
