Overview
A Community Celebration after a strange year!
Primarily Dance Trust, a nonprofit based out of Nelson, was formed to bring great dance to the community of Nelson and Top of the South
The Nutcracker ballet is a magical, festive, family treat about a Christmas gathering and a young girl's dream about her gift of a nutcracker becoming a handsome young man, and the journey he takes her on to the Kingdom of Sweets, where they are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
I am Lesley Bandy, the Artistic Director of Primarily Dance. After performing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy for many years, I now want youngsters here to experience the magic of Tchaikovsky's music and the spectacle of this wonderful ballet.
The new and exciting point of difference with this production is that it will be a true community and collaborative affair - involving dance students from the region onstage with professional dancers, performers from some of our diverse cultural communities adding their colour and flavour, and last but not least, local artists designing and fabricating the sets and props so necessary to the story and the magic of the whole ballet.
We need your help! The sets and props are going to cost about $10,000 to design and fabricate - just a part of the $50,000 production costs for dancers fees, theatre hire, technicians, copyrights, flights, lodgings, costumes....
Thank you to the Rata Foundation for approval of funding for a dance floor!
** Please, please add your donation – a small amount will help in buying a portion of the grandfather clock, the Nutcracker's head, a soldier's sword - we cannot mount this special Nutcracker without your aid.
These items will be part of a festive, annual, community Nutcracker event for years to come - forming special and fond memories for audiences and performers alike.
