SEP ARATE
Lydia Zanetti | Dance
Overview
SEP ARATE is a dance theatre show by the combined choreographic powers of val smith and Lydia Zanetti. Featuring a plethora of Auckland talent, SEP ARATE teases out the conversation around gender and sexuality through a queer gaze. In turn hilarious, challenging and charming, this is dance with a sprinkling of clowning and theatre - making a show that is accessible and current.
SEP ARATE needs dancers in order to be performed however. Or at least dancers who aren't fainting, walking hours to rehearsals, catching overnight buses up from Wellington and other such happenings of life and poverty... And with talent such as Isobel MacKinnon, Tallulah Holly-Massey, Lisa Greenfield, Mattie Hamuera, Tru Paraha and val smith (not to mention Ruby Reihanna-Wilson, Thomas Press & Trudi Hewitt) - what's not to support? So if you possibly can SEP ARATE some dollars from your wallet then we'd LOVE to be able to pay our performative pals in show week!
DANCE GETS HELLBENT ON GENDER

Off the back of Hermione's UN speech and opinion pieces on whether women's clothing has decent enough pockets for the new iPhone comes SEP ARATE - a dance theatre double-bill by Lydia Zanetti and val smith playing at the Basement Theatre, 12-15 November.
Where does me end and an other begin? Do I end?
Are we the same? Or are we kinds of different?
Defined as 'Basic Info' on Facebook, gender is only just beginning to be understood as more than a 'tick one of two' identity. In a world where Facebook has banned second identities and trans celebrity Laverne Cox is covergirl for Time magazine, traditional definitions of 'gender' have started to stretch and transform in the public eye. SEP ARATE returns this hot topic to its purported site of origin - the body.
SEP ARATE is spearheading a queer conversation in the arts, inviting audiences into exciting new terrains with humour and possibility. The result is both thought provoking and hilarious, embracing a hybrid of contemporary dance, site specific live art, installation and theatre. SEP ARATE is an unmissable and dynamic set of queer question marks to hang your hat on.
