On the Upside Down of the World New York Extension
Arthur Meek | Theatre
Overview
ON THE UPSIDE DOWN OF THE WORLD is set during the colonisation of the last place on earth. It's the story of an unlikely pioneer who blazes a unique trail through the untamed landscapes of New Zealand's early history when she's forced to foster a peculiar Maori boy.
WINNER OF THE SCREEN WRITER'S ASSOCIATION OF NEW ZEALAND AWARD FOR BEST PLAY
After being performed to acclaim throughout New Zealand since 2011, New York is hosting the New Zealand premiere of a show that resonates with audiences from any nation with colonisation in its memory and immigration at its heart.
"LAUREL DEVENIE IS NOTHING SHORT OF EXTRAORDINARY" - CAPITAL TIMES.
You will be supporting Laurel's New York living costs for a calendar month and all the expenses associated with the travel, venue hire and hospitality needed to help the production achieve its New Zealand potential.
Even more importantly, this project aims to form a community of friends and well-wishers around the show. It's a big world out there, and touring a solo show would be lonely if we didn't have people like you. This is going to be the start of a big adventure and we'll be sharing news of the opportunities we encounter and the people we meet along the road.
We've got good reason to believe that the show could be a winner in the States. I'm currently in New York as the Harriet Friedlander resident and can testify to the fact that New Zealand culture has never been hotter in the US than it is right now, and that nothing beats being on the ground when it comes to making and taking opportunities. This is a specifically Kiwi show with a universal message, so now it's time to boost off and take it to the world.
