Get The New Zealand String Quartet's 2020 Season Back On Track
New Zealand String Quartet Trust | Music
Overview
This year the New Zealand String Quartet was planning one of the biggest projects in its 33-year history. We planned to celebrate a massive composer with a massive tour... bringing Beethoven's complete string quartets to towns and cities around NZ and world-wide. Alongside this, we were looking forward to more concerts of NZ music, world music, contemporary music, and education workshops in our 2020 season.
While we revise our project in light of COVID-19, we need the support of our audiences to help us sustain our industry more than ever in these uncertain times. Music provides sanctuary, energy, joy, serenity – wherever you are.
The funds you help us raise here will go directly towards getting our season back on track. We’ve loved getting to know our digital audiences better, but we also know that live music buzz just can’t be beaten. As we rebuild, reschedule, and reimagine after cancelled NZ and international concerts, we hope you’ll join us and are hugely grateful for any support you're able to give at this challenging time.
We're still bringing audiences new music by NZ composers and want to support venues across NZ by getting back into them as soon as we can.
To celebrate NZ Music Month and staying local we’re performing a 45-minute programme of 21st-century music by NZ composers. Our sincere thanks to the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University of Wellington for making this live concert recording possible as part of their digital lunchtime concert series. Getting back together to perform for the first time since lockdown was even more special because this concert also includes a brand-new work, Auckland composer Louise Webster’s this memory of earth. In fact, the piece was completed for the quartet during lockdown. How’s that for awesome? A world premiere performance, right in your home!
We'll be adding our live concert recording to this page at midday (NZT) on Saturday 30 May so you can watch from then on.
The programme also includes some of our favourites:
Ross Harris, Variation 25
Louise Webster this memory of earth (NEW COMMISSION)
Jack Body Bai Sanxian
Natalie Hunt Data Entry Groove
