No More Heroes

Overview
No More Heroes is a feature length documentary film charting the birth of Skateboarding in New Zealand and the rise and fall during its 1970s explosion. A five-year labour of love amassed hundreds of rare photos and hours of Super 8 and 16mm footage, creating a film so special it leaves the viewer literally stunned. Raw, iconic, and most of all, Kiwi, pure 1970s madness!
This Project
Originally produced in 2006 to a kick-arse 100% NZ punk rock 70s soundtrack, the funds available were not enough to cover the music licensing rights beyond its debut at the 2006 New Zealand New Zealand Film Festival. We now want to raise the money to ensure it gets released once and for all.
This slice of New Zealand skateboarding history (akin to the likes of Stacy Peralta's 'Dogtown and Z-Boys') deserves a place in not only every skateboarders movie collection but in our country's library archives preserved for generations to come.
The Film
No More Heroes is a bittersweet tribute to the asphalt desperadoes of Aotearoa in the 1970s who took skateboarding from a fun pursuit into a full-blown New Zealand phenomenon. It tracks down the key players in the story- the top skaters, the manufacturers, the designers and photographers, and finds out exactly what happened. The collection of rare and unique footage includes that of Manukau's legendary skatepark Skatopia being opened by Rob Muldoon and visited by New Zealand teen superstar and actor Leif Garrett.
"This film will appeal to everyone, skaters and non-skaters, young and old alike. No one has really made a documentary that focuses on what young New Zealanders were doing in the 70s. The totally daggy kiwiana, moments are the best. The fashions are just rocking. You'd have to be dead not to get a kick out of the footage!" - Andrew Moore, 2006.
