MEN(TAL HEALTH) - CALL & RESPONSE
Jonathan Waters | Multi Discipline
Overview
'(MEN)TAL HEALTH' is a multi-disciplinary arts project which, through creative expression, seeks to support and facilitate open discussion and dialogue around Men's Mental Health.
It is clear to see, through both stories and statistics, that Men (not only in Aotearoa, but across the globe) continue to struggle with Mental Health diagnosis and stigma. The biggest barrier to improvement can actually be ourselves. Expression of how you think or feel does not have to be verbal, and this project allows any one to create a work that communicates their thoughts and feelings on a topic that can, at times, be very difficult to discuss.
Again, this exhibition is open to any one who wishes to submit a piece of work with a focus on Men's Mental Health. There will be the option to submit work anonymously if you wish. This work can take any form; Art, Writing, Photography, Spoken Word, Performance - Almost anything will be accepted that can be logistically managed within the Gallery space or performed on the Opening Night.
Once all works are collected, they will be hung in the Dunedin Community Gallery space and an exhibition opening will be celebrated together. The exhibition will be open for two weeks following this with limited open hours.
The funds required for this show are for the Gallery Hire, Printing/Promotion, Exhibition Opening costs and Hanging Materials. If we are able to reach our stretch goal, we would like to produce a small publication which documents the narrative of the show and the works which were created for it.
Any works which are sold as a result of this exhibition, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust.
If you are in a position to donate and help this show come to life we appreciate your generosity. Ngā mihi!
