Overview
Do you love New Zealand Made clothing?
Donate to support our future.
The New Zealand garment manufacturing industry is under threat, and now more than ever, we need to support our beloved local supply chain of makers who bring your favourite clothes to life. Donate now and join Mindful Fashion NZ to raise funds to create a thriving and sustainable future for Made in NZ clothing.
New Zealand needs to invest in a sustainable future for the local fashion industry and the creation of manufacturing jobs. It is becoming more and more challenging to produce clothing in New Zealand. There is a declining number of New Zealanders with garment construction skills, which makes it ever harder to produce clothes in NZ, especially given the competition provided by global fast fashion.
Mindful Fashion is a collective of leading New Zealand designers, fabric suppliers and manufacturers who believe in a future for the New Zealand clothing and textile industry that is inclusive, sustainable and successful.
Our mission is to unite the New Zealand clothing and textile industry to create an innovative, full-circle and thriving future.
Our vision is for New Zealand’s unique clothing and textile industry to inspire better in the world.
All funds raised through Mindful Fashion’s Love Local Boosted campaign will go toward three short term projects; stepping stones in our long-term vision for advocacy, collaboration and sustainable innovation.
Project 1: Mindful Fashion requires urgent funding and government support to develop a meaningful garment manufacturing apprenticeship programme to fulfil much needed industry skill shortages and create jobs within our clothing industry. Mindful Fashion also needs to work closely with New Zealand’s tertiary education providers to ensure their graduates are meeting these skill shortages within the industry and create recruitment pathways for students entering the workforce.
Funding of $20,000 will go towards:
- Appointing a Projects and Partnerships Manager to work with local industry and educators to create a certified apprenticeship programme and training pathways to upskill workers and generate employment opportunities within our industry.
Project 2: Create education programmes and collaborations with garment manufacturers to tackle industry challenges and seize new opportunities.
Funding of $5000 will go towards:
- Seminars and training from local and global sustainability and industry experts.
- The development of best practice toolkits for all parts of the fashion and textile industry.
- Local production workshops for Designer production teams.
Project 3: Development of the MFNZ website and a digital directory of local suppliers and makers to support and encourage brands wanting to make in New Zealand. This database will both support local businesses and grow to tell the story of the industry.
Funding of $5,000 will go towards the development of the MFNZ website to include:
- Develop a clothing and textile ‘yellow pages’ so it’s easy for designers to find new manufacturers and suppliers.
- Shoppable functionality.
- Development of a member login for access to best practice toolkits, digital seminar information and more.
All donations to our Love Local Boosted campaign will receive a complimentary 1-year MFNZ Supporters Membership, which entitles members to regular MFNZ newsletters along with news of Designer specials and events.
When you submit your donation please tick box 'I'm happy to share my contact details with Mindful Fashion' so that we can contact you to finalise your membership.
Mindful Fashion will regularly report on our Love Local campaign progress through member newsletters and on the Mindful Fashion New Zealand website.

Project Updates
THANKS SO MUCH TO OUR LOVE LOCAL SUPPORTERS! WE MADE IT! But we can do more...
We have added a stretch target of $7000.
Additional funding will go towards our circular textiles project, with the aim to create a fully circular textile system in NZ and eliminate waste. Textile waste issues are growing and there is opportunity to tackle this in multiple ways, including through new models, new processes and new materials.
We plan to undertake a scoping study to identify circular economy opportunities throughout the NZ supply chain, identify partnerships and prioritise action areas where innovative solutions can be introduced, in order to keep clothing and textiles in use, and add value to existing waste-streams.
Special thank you to the following businesses for their generous support: 2 degrees, Pocket Square, Huia Vineyards, Wall Fabrics, Kate Sylvester, Ruby, Juliette Hogan, Nancy Loves Bikes, Porter Novelli, Mediaworks Radio, QMS Media, Shout Media, 47 Frocks, Patagonia, Void Clothing, Hawes and Freer, Britomart Group, Sills and Co, Paris Georgia, Phoenix Eyewear, Bonded NZ, Hallertau, Fazerdaze, Boh Runga Design, General Sleep, Dhall and Nash Fine Wines, Metal Bird, Baina, Better Packaging, Charles Parsons.
