Overview

Help us bring The Little Street Art Festival to life!

The Little Street Art Festival will harness urban art’s diverse creativity to add a sense of whimsy, wonder and commentary to the streets of Ōtautahi in 2023!

We love the way art can make our streets infinitely more interesting, often through smaller, surprising additions that encourage us to take time, look closer, and reflect on the environment surrounding us in new ways – the city is a canvas for creativity and remember, size isn’t everything!

What is The Little Street Art Festival?

The Little Street Art Festival has been developed by Watch This Space as a unique platform for urban creatives to add moments of play, whimsy, wonder, reflection and critique to the streets of Ōtautahi Christchurch. The festival will encourage artists and the audience to see the city in new creative ways!

While most street art festivals focus on the blockbuster presence of massive murals, The Little Street Art Festival will celebrate the smaller things that encourage us to explore, investigate and consider our environment – from stencils, sculptural installations, paintings and posters to street craft, gardening, ceramics, projections, performances and more.

The Little Street Art Festival will add another layer to Ōtautahi and Aotearoa’s reputation as an urban art destination, providing new opportunities for artists to explore their work within the cityscape and new ways for the public to experience art in the streets.

Supporting local businesses and activating urban space, the festival will span 10 days and spotlight a number of artists through interactive urban installations, artist talks, guided tours, workshops and more! The Little Street Art Festival will be a truly unique event in the Ōtautahi and Aotearoa arts landscape - help us make it a reality!

Who is Watch This Space?

Formed in 2016, Watch This Space is an Ōtautahi-based urban arts trust dedicated to exploring, documenting and celebrating graffiti and street art across the city and wider Aotearoa. We serve to connect artists with new audiences and to illuminate the world of urban art for the public to explore.

What do we need?

The Little Street Art Festival requires funding to partially cover:

  • Artist fees
  • Material and installation costs
  • Operational and administration costs
  • Marketing and collateral costs

We project the total cost of the festival to be approximately $69,000, our goal is to raise $15,000 through Boosted Ōtautahi – and we need your help to get there!

With sufficient support, The Little Street Art Festival will be free and accessible (the way it should be!) and we can ensure artists and our crew are paid a fair amount for their mahi! The best way you can support The Little Street Art Festival is to donate and every contribution is greatly valued and appreciated by our team.

Help us spread the word!

Sharing The Little Street Art Festival and this campaign is also a fantastic way to help – please tell your friends, whanau and wider networks – we want to drum up as much support as possible! Tag us in social media (@thelittlestreetartfestival, @watchthisspacechch) and reach out if you want more information (hello@watchthisspace.org.nz)!

Please back The Little Street Art Festival and help us make this unique event a reality!

Thank you for your support - it means the world to us.
