Jessica Pearless | Visual Art
Overview
My Background
?I am an Auckland based artist with a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland (2011). Recent achievements include: inaugural Artists Alliance Artist in Residence (2011); AMP New Zealand Scholarship Winner (2011); The New Zealand Painting & Printmaking Award Merit Award Winner (2013 & 2014).
The Work
My practice is an exploration of the non objective through painting and installation. A key concept is the idea of the artist as a seeker, searcher or archiver of knowledge in search of self realisation and understanding of the world. The role of painting now is an integral consideration in my work, to find a place within it whilst proposing a discreet examination of the fundamental aspects of abstract painting. I aim to illustrate the realisation of a personal search for logic and understanding of the state of being or the experience of knowing through abstraction.
