Overview

A DOCTOR SEUSS INSPIRED POEM combining stop frame animation and live action tells the glorious story of Chinese refugees and market gardeners Faye and Joe Gock. Spanning over half a century in three short minutes this film will entertain and delight!   It's impossible to meet the Gocks and not have a giggle. Their love of life, the land, the kumara and New Zealand is simply infectious.

Here's a little taste of the poem to get you in the mood...

"Kumara, kumara
Let's plant that said Faye
With a tractor she  talks to
Still used to this day
Their first year of crop
They grow One Sixty ton
And The Gocks are the stars
Of the Kumara run!

But all is not well
In the kumara fields
Up North in the sun
The fields fail to yield
The Kumara growers
Are down on their knees
Black rot has set in
 A killer disease..."
And it is Mr and Mrs Gock who come to the rescue!

Loading Docs is the perfect platform for this little film and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the Gock story under this umbrella. When we reach our target of $2000 Loading Docs will match this dollar for dollar. If we raise more money this will allow us to make an even better film and perhaps even provide lunch for the crew!

Arani and I are very committed to telling positive refugee stories so thanks in advance for helping us do this and also celebrate and preserve this important part of NZ's rich history.
