Overview
Kia Ora! play_station gallery is a non-for-profit artist run space that facilitates contemporary and conceptual art practices in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
Since opening in 2016, we have shown over 37 exhibitions of local and New Zealand artists, as well as hosted countless artist talks, dance shows, life drawing classes, book launches and performance workshops.
We exist to:
- Show the incredible contemporary and conceptual art practises in New Zealand
- Support artists to develop their practise in an independant environment
- Provide a space where Wellington artists and creatives can work and collaborate
But to make this happen we've gotta raise some $$$. play_station has previously been funded in part by artist fees - a practise which means artists have to pay to exhibit their work. This convention is way too common in Aotearoa's art community and conflicts with our core beliefs - so we've scrapping it.
No artist should be charged to show their work.
But without artist fees we are struggling to stay open - and we need your help! By chipping in you will ensure ongoing support for our artists, enable the upkeep of our space, and help keep our doors open to the public.
We hope that we can continue showing and promoting the remarkable work of our artists, and we hope to to do this without any cost barriers getting in the way. Your support will help exhibiting in Wellington remain accessible for artists
Thank you for being a part of this awesome mahi.
Love,
The team at play_station
