Artist Talk & Fundraising Evening at Fiksate Gallery
We had a fantastic night hosting the Ghostcat artist Talk & Fundraising Evening with an amazing sell-out turnout and overwhelming support for his project 'Ghosts on Every Corner'.
Dr. Reuben Woods & Ghostcat had great discussions on the artworks and the meaning behing this project, as well as lots of laughs and good Q&A involvement with the audience.
We can't thank everyone enough for coming along! .
Huge thanks to Cosmic Ticketing for donating their fee, Southpaw Beer for supplying tasty cans of their Uncle Charlie IPA and Happy Hire for providing all the seating as part of their contribution for the project!
Preview of 'Real Groovy' Scatch-built Artwork and Book Design
Ghostcat recently created an example of an entire scratch-build of 'Real Groovy', a music store that used to exist pre-earthquake on Tuam St, which is no longer there, but the building is still there with boarded-up windows and graffiti.
This scratch-build is spectacular! It includes an interior with vinyl racks, posters and speakers. There are lights that turn on via a switch on the top to illuminate the 'OPEN' sign and front door light. This was built from a photograph taken of the real 'Real Groovy' building and it is exact in all its details.
Fiksate and Ghostcat did a photoshoot on location at the Tuam St. site where 'Real Groovy' existed. From this photoshoot, we were able to mock up what a section of the book will look like. Each build will have its own section and header page, with several photographs in with the writing and interviews by Dr. Reuben Woods.
We hope this example of what Ghostcat can do, and how we will present it in the final book helps give an idea of what this project can do; bring back the memories of the places they used to exist, for the people who lived, loved, and remember... or for those who are interested in what Christchurch used to be like.
