Get Darius To The Globe

Thanks to theatre, I have been able to overcome many adversities in my life – being a young, gay/Takatāpui, Māori rangatahi; Theatre helped me express emotions I didn't understand and assisted me to find understanding in my sexuality. If I didn't do drama, I would be an entirely different person from the one that I am today.

I am an ex-Tauraroa Area School student (2021) who has had the incredible honour of winning a spot, alongside 23 other amazing young New Zealanders, with the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand - Young Shakespeare Company. News :: Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ (sgcnz.org.nz)

What this means is a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom in July of 2022 and participate in a three week intensive series of workshops, talks, and mentoring, plus the chance to watch performances at the Globe and attend 12 rehearsals with a Globe Director, and then perform for the public on the Globe Stage.

I then get to bring this incredible learning back home to Northland to share either through directing a student performance of Shakespeare with NYT or through workshops, working as a mentor with students, teachers, or theatre groups. By sharing our experiences we get to inspire and be role models for young people in the community.

I am passionate about performance arts and see this as my future, I would like to make the most of this opportunity. The cost to attend this programme is NZ$10 000. Through working and fundraising I am almost halfway there, however still short NZ$6000. As the time draws closer I remain in urgent need of further support.
