Free to Play

We’re returning to the heart of the capital with a free creative Play space for our tamariki and their caregivers. 

Designed and built for our smallest citizens, we're harnessing the power of play to encourage creativity, confidence and resilience in our young children (under five). Our new Play space opens in Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Wellington Central Library in March. 

Our designer Scott Parker brings over 15 years of experience in creating inspiring public spaces for tamariki, including spaces in museums and galleries. Scott's work emphasises inclusive, immersive, and interactive spaces where all tamariki and their caregivers feel welcome.

Nōku te Ao Capital E is a vibrant space where young people can unleash their imaginations and explore endless creative possibilities. We are part of Wheako Pōneke Experience Wellington, a charity that provides incredible arts and culture experiences for residents and visitors to Wellington, with support from Wellington City Council.

We're seeking support to pay for the materials required to fit-out the Play space - wood, fabric and decorating supplies - to bring Scott's imaginative designs and artworks to life. 

We're covering the nuts & bolts, but need your support to make play truly magical for our tamariki. 

Nōku te Ao Capital E’s interactive Play space is designed for tamariki under five and their caregivers.  

Nōku te Ao Capital E is returning to Wellington's Te Ngākau Civic Square, as a resident Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Wellington Central Library. 

It gives us an exciting opportunity to redesign our creativity- and community-led Play space for our tamariki. We need your support to make it happen.

We have received support for our technology and furniture and now need donations for the fun bit – the interior.

Designed for young children, the Play environment supports growing imaginations through movement, sensory play, craft, and science. Caregivers can join in or connect while tamariki explore a warm, secure, buggy- and wheelchair‑accessible space, guided by our experienced team.
