Enigmatic Art Objects
Kelsey Stankovich | Visual Art
Overview
I want to populate the urban environment of Wynard Quarter with sculptural surprises that play with texture, colour and form. My art objects will result from experiments with materials and then sit quietly in the spaces they come to inhabit.
The collection of sculptures I plan to make, with your support, will be placed in and around seating and planting areas of Silo Park - ripe for chance encounters with passers-by. As art object enigmas they will be indefinable and elusive, puzzling rather than obvious.
Each creation will be a mix of carefully selected materials and construction techniques. I will pour and ply, test, trim, stuff, stitch and stretch them into shape, moulding each work to fit specific corners, nooks and outcrops for people to discover.
I'm looking forward to exhibiting a collection of new artworks as a part of Tidelines at Wynard Quarter because it is such an indefinable and transitory space which welcomes many different people, cultures and events. My art objects will enjoy the open design of the Auckland Waterfront, which promotes the creative and tumultuous intersection of multiple uses.
Your contribution to my project will go towards purchasing the sturdy materials required to stand up to Auckland's changing weather conditions and to curious members of the public. A little bit of your contributions may be called on to cover expenses such as sewing machine break-downs at 2am in the morning . . .
I hope that you will be able to help me make this project happen, and I hope you will enjoy a quiet and strange moment with an enigmatic art object soon.
This work will be presented on Silo Park North Edge Garden and Jellicoe Plaza Garden from Saturday the 31st of January 2015Check out previous projects on my website:
