Elemental
Dunedin Midwinter Carnival | Theatre
Overview
Elemental is an aerial silks and contemporary dance spectacular to be performed in a stunning outdoor setting: over, around, and in Dunedin's St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool.
Through Maori creation stories of Raki and Papa, and Raki's jealous rival Takaroa, the show will explore elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Featuring aerial silks artists, dancers, singers, and more, Elemental promises to be a unique performance event not to be missed! It will feature in the Dunedin Fringe Festival 2018.
Performers involved in Elemental include the astoundingly talented aerialists of Brophy's Aerials, contemporary dancers led by award-winning choreographer Emma Holloway, the glamorous Aquagold Synchronised Swimmers, plus fire performers, drumming group The Unfortunate Repercussions, and vocal soloist Ana Good.
The creative team behind Elemental has previously collaborated on a number of spectacular, innovative, site-specific shows, including Cirque des Voleurs (Sammy's), Metamorphosis (Athenaeum Underground), and Circus Alice (Gasworks Museum).
But Elemental is our most ambitious show to date, and we need your help to make it happen! The St Clair Pool has never been used as a show venue before, let alone hosting such a diverse and dazzling range of performers. Presenting an original show in a new non-theatre venue raises all sorts of interesting technical, logistical and budgetary challenges, All donations, small or large, will help us make this exciting vision a reality.
Thank you!
