Overview
WE HAVE SOME GREAT NEWS!
The Rebel Alliance will make its Swedish debut later this year as part of the Stockholm and Gothenburg Fringe Festivals. These festivals are curated by the Nordic Fringe Network and getting picked for the programme is highly sought after; more than 800 projects from 48 countries applied. And we are stoked to annouce that ‘Back to Square One?’ made the cut!
Back to Square One? Was originally designed to be performed in driveways, parks and cul-de-sacs in the aftermath of the 2020 lockdown. Using only chalk to draw with Anders Falstie-Jensen weaves the Norse myth of Ragnarok into a unique story of disasters, family and unexpected connections.
WHO ARE WE?
The Rebel Alliance is a Tāmaki Makaurau based company. Since 2006 we have created and toured new New Zealand works stretching from Kaitaia to Dunedin. Often solidly planted in real life, the works we present prove that truth often surpasses fiction. Extraordinary life stories move, provoke, inspire and put our own lives into perspective.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
These seasons are part of our long term strategy to find a way into European and Scandinavian markets that doesn't involve slogging it out as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Last year we went to Denmark and that trip is starting to pay off. We have a been invited back with Back to Square One? and are also in conversation with a Danish theatre about collaborating on a new project.
Upon our return we will be sharing our Swedish experiences with both colleagues, who tour internationally, as well as those who aspire to go beyond our shores.
WHERE WILL YOUR SUPPORT GO?
We will need to cover some of the costs that comes with touring namely:
- The flight
- Train fares
- Accommodation
- Production and marketing costs.
Project Updates
Tack så mycket! (Thank you so much!)
Incredible! We made it! Thank you so much for getting behind jetting Back to Square One? to the Stockholm and Gothenburg Fringe Festivals!
The aeroplane ticket has been booked and we've starting writing a 'What-to-bring' list for Sweden. Apart from our very special performance chalk we are also bringing quite a few blocks of Whittaker's chocolate in case we encounter Kiwis trapped in Europe, who are in need for a taste of home. We also use the the chocolate as an audience prize for a game we play with the audience as part of the show.
In the months to come we will keep you updated on how we go.
Once again, thanks for your support of The Rebel Alliance. It means a lot.
Ngā mihi,
Anders
