Help us celebrate three years of 5ever antics and all of our future mystery mischief!!

5ever books has an exceptional track record of democratizing publishing for all. We work our ass off for free every day, empowering our community through the print medium. And we do it all on a dime. 

Hell, we delivered more than a thousand notebooks to prisoners made by our volunteer network that makes and distributes notebooks out of waste paper for prisoners in all prisons across Aotearoa on a $200 budget! We ran an art workshop for HUNDREDS of kids at Te Ramaroa Nelson Light Festival with a $50 bagful of opshop finds! We pushed a super cool history book denouncing colonisation and capitalism into Wellington schools on a $100 print run! When 5ever books launched in Dec 2020, we birthed 5 little books into this world backed with a grand total of $700! We throw banging public talks and events on shoe-string budgets!

Akin to Direct Action, 5ever does Direct Expenses. It means every dollar goes into paper, printing, binding glue, and Authors Getting Paid. No middle man, no facebook ad campaigns. We make our own poster glue. We deliver to bookstores by foot. We dumpster dive for paper waste. We cook and provide our own book launch catering! At this stage, we're generally working for free but rest assured we treat our creatives well and are looking towards a more sustainable future... this is the first step!

Today, we need your hard earned money to build up a bit of treasury for our upcoming projects and the future of 5ever!!

What are these projects specifically? We don't know! That's the fucking magic! But we got a track record and we plan to keep on going as long as we can. We have over 20 projects on our 5ever horizon, from novels to public interventions, and we need your help to make them happen!!!

With treasury, we can pay our authors upfront. We can buy paper in bulk to save a few $$$. Generally we can plan better and keep doing the thought-provoking, politically uncompromised, and DANK publishing work that benefits our community so immensely (or so they tell us).

5ever is an underground publishing house based at Rebel Press, Trades Hall in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. We print, splice, bind and chop pesky dank little books. Our scope is nebulous. Form and sense of disciplinarity remains plural. But our target is clear: to publish punchy, intense and interdisciplinary work, woven together by a shared transformational kaupapa. We recognise the collective necessity of actively infiltrating and affecting our playground and home, Wellington. As we balance our vision with pragmatism, we are committed to realising a post-capitalist vision that honours Te Tiriti O Waitangi in Aotearoa. We are serious in our playfulness.
