Kia ora!
My name's Jam (they/them), and I'm a non-Binary theatre creative based in Kirikiriroa at the very start of my journey into the professional scene!
I studied at the University of Waikato, completing both a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre and English), and a Master of Arts (Theatre, First Class Honours). In 2019, I wrote my first play 'Four Kings', using Shakespearean characters and situations, and recontextualising them into a classic kiwi uni party setting. From there, I became interesting in adaptation, which fuelled my thesis and second play 'A Cliff in Denmark', a more direct adaptation of Hamlet, looking at masculinity and mental health within a New Zealand context.
My third play, 'wish i was there', was developed through The Meteor Theatre's 'Boil Up' programme. The play is a one-person exploration of identity, featuring a radio dj flying through the solar system, looking for home. The play is set to premiere at BATS Theatre in November of 2022.
