The New Brighton Stitch-O-Mat was established by Bridget Allen an Samantha Fay in 2017 at Te Kura Tawhito in New Brighton, Ōtautahi. Seeing a need for access for both sewing equipment and skills and taking inspiration from similar projects around Aotearoa the Stitch-O-Mat team have created a welcoming space to access resources, equipment and knowledge.

To enable individuals, organisations and businesses to improve their social and
environmental sustainability; to provide a safe space to access equipment and
resources; and to develop sewing and textile skills.

To promote sustainability, ethical fashion and textile projects. To make sustainable
living a mainstream option by providing a welcoming community swing space with
access to open-source material, where people of all ages and backgrounds can
work on their own /or help fulfill community projects.
