Ethno New Zealand is a music-focused intercultural learning project for youth (age 18-30) connecting cultural communities in Aotearoa to celebrate our diverse heritage. Through a democratic peer-to-peer music facilitation approach in a camp environment, Ethno NZ aims to nurture young musicians to explore the different stories, songs and cultures of their neighbours and themselves. The product of the week-long exchange include at least two public concerts showcasing both music shared and learned by the diverse body of musicians as well as original compositions reflecting the cultural connections and journeys of the group. These will communicate the project’s underlying kaupapa: traditional knowledge sharing for meaningful intercultural dialogue and community wellbeing. Ethno New Zealand aims to create understanding and respect among young people from different cultural communities in New Zealand contributing to a more collaborative and peaceful environment and community wellbeing through recognition and cultural empowerment.
