Qianye 林千叶 and Qianhe Lin 林千和
Receiving the Springboard Award for Visual Arts gifted by Dr Fiona Pardington and Starkwhite – Mentored by 2014 Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Laureate Lisa Reihana CNZM
Qianye 林千叶 and Qianhe Lin 林千和 (born 1995, 1997; China, Aotearoa New Zealand; live and work in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland) are siblings who work as a duo, developing moving-image, installation, and publication.
They both graduated from the Waipapa Taumata Rau of Auckland, Elam School of Fine Arts. In their practice, they are interested in exploring the material lineage of belief systems—how they function in myth-making and storytelling, and the connection between materiality and collective understanding.
Panel statement: “We are delighted to acknowledge Qianye 林千叶 and Qianhe 林千和 with a Springboard Visual Arts Award. Qianye 林千叶 and Qianhe 林千和 work collaboratively, expertly weaving personal, queer, and Chinese mythologies and histories through their storytelling. Their innovative and interdisciplinary practice is ambitious and conceptually rigorous, and we are excited to see how this award and mentoring programme will contribute to a sustainable future for them both.”
