The Project
Wishbone is a coming-of-age queer short film that takes place on students, Noah and Riley’s, final performance at drama school. It’s dreamy, It’s pop, It’s glitz, while staying soft and intimate, driven by conversations and connection. We are crowdfunding to pay for locations, actors, food, costumes, and the plethora of other costs associated with making a kick-arse short film.
The Team
We have assembled a passionate team of young creatives eager to give their all to this project. At the core, we have Jasper - writer/director, Chris - producer, and Piripiri - director of photography. We have loved working with each other in the past and feel that we have a unique synergy that we can't wait to bring back, stronger than ever.
In addition to the 15+ crew members committed to this project, we have cast some brilliant talent from Toi Whakaari.
With the help of Eveline Breaker, our composer, and Xavier Walsh, our lead graphic designer, we are eager to combine our skills and create an outstanding piece of work.
The Funding
We are raising money for the following items:
- Hiring locations
- Paying actors
- Feeding cast & crew
- Hiring an intimacy coordinator
- Commissioning our composer
- Makeup, consumables, and harddrives
The Details
Our project explores complex themes of infidelity and identity. Throughout the film tension rises between Noah and Riley as Riley's boyfriend Pete arrives from out of town, forcing the two to confront their secret affair and navigate the complexity of their friendship.
The idea for Wishbone came from Philippe Gaullier, a French clown and theatre teacher who coined the phrase, le jeu which translates to the game. He teaches that performing is all about the ‘game’ played between your fellow performers, and we wanted to explore this dynamic within a romantic relationship. Portraying the sometimes unspoken intimacy of young love in beautiful and brutal honesty.
The Impact
Wishbone aims to provide raw representations and tackle taboo themes. It needs to be made as it explores important representations and storylines often missing from our media environment. In doing so, it aims to reframe and challenge norms around identity and intimacy. Any support is appreciated and contributes both to this project and the network of aspiring creatives connected to this project.
