Overview

When the Poet Dreamed An Angel revolves around the community of Greytown (where the show will also be performed and where most of the performers are from). It is about how this town re-mounts a show and exhibition cancelled due to a tragedy. It draws on the themes of grief, forgiveness and love.

The show's chief choreographer and director of the show, Justine Eldred, says, "Do not expect one kind of perfection, but certainly expect the other". The perfection spoken of is the kind which comes from a gypsy-like artistic collaboration; between a physiotherapist who has just choreographed his first ever dance, a man with Parkinson's whose every gesture is a dance, fabulous dance students from Kuranui College's dance programme, kapa haka dancers, and let us not forget, Justine's Dad, John, the most senior member of the company who is back on the dance circuit since starting in 1948 as Peter in 'Peter and the Wolf.'

We are hoping to raise $3000. This would enable us to film the project simply, but professionally and to a good quality. So that those who were in it can have a lasting memory of the show, as can our community. Being just a community dance company, we also need funds to pay for our APRA permissions to use the music we are dancing to.

We would love for you to help us immortalise hundreds of hours of work packed into a mere weekend of shows. To buy tickets to the show please go to www.whenthepoetdreamedanangel.eventbrite.co.nz
