HELP LETTER OF SUPPORT
THREE DAYS LEFT
WE TOO is a website and artist’s hubspace in the early stages of development, created and curated by MEDUSA Collective. A space for creatives who have experienced or wish to engage in conversation around sexual harm and healing. This website will house various links to support, explorations into different forms of healing, information on safe workplace practice, as well as other helpful topics and resources. It will also be a platform for artists to showcase their own pieces of work. Our aim for our workspace is to be able to offer a safe, affordable and inclusive environment for other artists to use when creating their work.
MEDUSA Collective is a creative collective currently consisting of Hannah Clerk, Cinta Damerell, Ashleigh William, Madeleine Knowles and Elizabeth Winders. We are a group of emerging creatives passionate about shifting the way we collaborate, with a wide range of experience across different disciplines. We met attending drama school and throughout our time all saw the lack of support for sexual assault survivors in the institution. We pushed for change having large discussions with our university about student and staff code of conduct along with policies involving serious misconduct (specifically to do with sexual harm). While we saw some change in policy and the introduction of a sexual abuse workshop we were dissatisfied with the results.
Coming out of university and into the industry we continue to see a huge lack of movement towards prevention and a more common "she'll be right" damage control mentality. From wider conversations with other fellow artists, as well as across other industries, sexual harm is not few and far but rather the norm. This NEEDS to change, and we intend to facilitate that change via creating this website and artist’s hub.
We have been lucky enough to secure a workspace in the heart of Auckland on Karangahape Road. This space will be used to house various classes focused on for instance healing via various physical activities, a rehearsal space for other artists and a safe space for us as a creative collective to use as our base. Our funding application to Creative New Zealand was unfortunately denied, which means that the money raised from our Boosted campaign is vital in supporting our rent payments, as well as provide necessary furnishing for ourselves and the artists who will be using the space.
We only have THREE DAYS LEFT on our Boosted campaign, and we would love any contributions that people feel able to offer us, whether that be financially or by sharing this post on social media. We deeply appreciate the support that has been offered so far!
