Eso Que (No) Decimos
Tupu | Theatre
Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau
The Project
Developed by Tupu Productions, Eso que (no) decimos is an immersive Spanish-language theatre experience that invites audiences into an intimate, sensory world where silence, vulnerability, and what remains unsaid take centre stage.
The project explores the emotional weight of routine, unspoken decisions, and the impact of silence on mental health. Through close proximity, layered scenography, sound, texture, and presence, the audience is not just watching a story, they are inside it.

The Details
Eso que (no) decimos is an immersive Spanish-language theatre work developed over a year and a half of collective creation. The project is rooted in deep character development, exploring relationships with the intimacy and complexity of siblings or long-term partners, where history, silence, and emotional bonds shape every interaction.
This is an ambitious and inclusive production, designed to feel like home for a few moments. The work incorporates English descriptive subtitles to welcome non-Spanish-speaking audiences, while preserving the emotional depth and musicality of the original language. Through a blend of digital elements and tangible textures, the production expands the theatrical experience beyond dialogue, inviting audiences to engage through sound, visuals, proximity, and atmosphere.
More than a performance, Eso que (no) decimos is an invitation to belong. It creates a space where Spanish-speaking communities in Aotearoa can reconnect with their language and cultural identity, where students of Spanish can experience the language emotionally, and where lovers of immersive theatre can step into a raw, intimate world that transcends translation.
At its core, the project seeks connection and shared reflection, reminding us that sometimes, what we don’t say still connects us, deeply and humanly.
The Impact
Eso que (no) decimos is more than a theatre production, it’s a catalyst for creative, cultural, and community growth in Tāmaki Makaurau.
As the first Argentine adaptation performed here in Auckland, the project demonstrates the possibilities of international collaboration and cultural exchange, inspiring local artists and communities to explore bold, self-managed, and collaborative projects.
By presenting a Spanish-language immersive experience with inclusive accessibility features, the production encourages:
- Art in your own language: motivating others to create and perform in their mother tongues.
- Curiosity and inclusion: welcoming audiences who are learning Spanish or discovering new cultural expressions.
- Community engagement: activating local spaces for art, gatherings, and shared creative experiences.
We hope this project will spark more self-directed and collaborative initiatives, opening doors for diverse artistic voices in Aotearoa, and showing how culturally specific stories can resonate widely while fostering belonging, creativity, and cross-cultural exchange.
