The Project
DEPOT needs your help!
Severe floods last year forced us to close our doors for several months. Our galleries and recording studio were gutted, as were we, we are finally getting back on our feet, but we still need your help. We’re almost halfway to our goal, and with your help we hope to be able to reach our target and get back to doing what we do best, support artists!
DEPOT is a creative hub working with artists and musicians, and the wider creative community across Tamaki Makaurau. We offer affordable recording and rehearsal studios, professional development programmes for emerging and established creatives, artist studio spaces and two art galleries. We host gigs, exhibitions, workshops, and career development programmes – all designed to help creatives thrive. Our model ensures artists are supported, and we’re dedicated to keeping these opportunities accessible.
This is the work we do, and with your help, we’ll keep doing it.
Every donation helps DEPOT remain a creative hub and allows us to continue to support artists and the wider sector.
All donations are tax deductible, so effectively you get a third of what you give back!
Donate now and know that you have made a huge difference.
Thank you,
Team DEPOT

The Team
Located in Te Hau Kapua/Devonport, DEPOT is a not-for-profit supportive space for all creative expressions and practices. We are proud to host professional recording studios, a curated gallery space used by emerging and established artists alike, an artisan space selling local handcrafted items as well as professional development programmes and creative business mentoring. Our 28-year history speaks to the impact that DEPOT has had on creatives not just in Devonport, but across Aotearoa.
DEPOT's many arms are supported by a passionate team, with a wide variety of experience across the entire creative industry. With skills in visual arts, film, music, photography, fashion, international arts, craft, Te Ao Māori, creative employment and career development, and graphic design - the threads that make up our organisation always begin with creative roots.
The Funding
We’re raising $20,000 to bridge the financial gap created by recent flood damage and closure. Insurance has covered most repairs and replacements, but we’re still facing significant income losses. Here’s how your contributions will help:
• Operational Support – Compensating for income lost from cancelled and postponed recording sessions, allowing us to keep our staff and continue supporting artists and musicians.
• Events and Programme Continuity – Ensuring the upcoming exhibitions, events and workshops proceed as planned, providing opportunities for collaboration, connection, learning and growth.
• Upgrades and Resilience - Rebuilding with improved facilities and equipment to serve the community even better than before. This is particularly relevant for the recording studios which plan to re-open fully in February 2025. (Depot Sound is currently operating with limited capacity due to the flood damage.)
Every dollar donated directly supports the team to continue supporting the community, covering essential losses and restoring Depot as a vibrant, accessible creative space for our community.
The Details
Our project is a crucial fundraising initiative to help Depot Artspace and Depot Sound recover from severe flood damage. Recently, floods forced us to temporarily close our music studios and gallery, directly impacting our ability to serve the community of local artists and musicians and visitors alike. Although most expenses are covered by insurance, we face a financial shortfall from cancelled sessions, postponed projects, and on-going operational disruptions. This fundraiser is a call to the community to support the spaces that support them, ensuring that Depot can continue to be a creative hub for artists, musicians, and creatives from across Aotearoa.
We are dedicated to rebuilding Depot to be even better than before, with an upgraded suite of equipment and facilities that will benefit everyone. Your support will ensure our galleries stay open, artists have a space to showcase their work, and musicians can record in a state-of-the-art studio.
The Impact
The Impact:
This work is vital for the artistic and cultural fabric of our community. Depot Artspace and Depot Sound are pillars in Aotearoa’s creative scene, supporting emerging and established creatives alike —some of whom you may recognize: Kimbra, Gin Wigmore, Bic Runga, Tim Finn, Head Like A Hole, Don McGlashan, Harper Finn, The Checks, Rikki Morris, Suzy Cato, Dead Favours, Graham Brazier, White Birds And Lemons, The Electric Confectionaires, and many more from your local scene. By contributing, you’re helping to restore spaces that countless artists, musicians, and community members rely on for development, collaboration, opportunity and inspiration.
Depot has long championed the arts, fostering creativity through exhibitions, professional development, mentoring, recording services, and a range of community events and initiatives. With your support, Depot can continue to offer an inclusive, creative environment that empowers artists and enriches the lives of everyone who engages with the arts. By backing this project, our community can come together to preserve and strengthen a space that truly values and uplifts local creativity.
