The Project
After being offered his favorite form of payment; Cigarettes. An old man spins a tale for two curious children. The legendary story of Shotgun, a gang enforcer with fantastical martial prowess who, one night, discovers the missing piece in his life, a dream to sing. What follows is his fight to leave the criminal world behind and chase the dream he never knew he had.
Shotgun is a comedic action/adventure set in a styalized 1930's Aotearoa, inspired by the classic Hong Kong Martial arts comedies we grew up with. Through this crowdfunding campaign, we are raising funds to bring the film to life with the heart, humour and high octane action it deserves. Securing key locations and giving our cast ample time to rehearse and deliver fights worthy of our inspirations; Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer and Around the World in 80 Days.
The Team
I am Leo Allan, honestly, I am quite green. I started making films as a outlet to create characters for myself to experiment with as an actor. But then that slowly grew as a love for storytelling. I just finished making my latest short film Dog Days, which is currently in festival circulation. Following a man in the apocalypse searching for the charging cable for his camera. But finds an annoying dog instead. I love my journey genres, montages, adventures . They feel nostalgic, that they can show relationships forming and their difficulties, not just through real-time. But through multiple days or months. It allows you to truly see people grow and adapt to who or what they are journeying with. This is my specialty.
The team I am working with is Lazy Bones production. They have a love for styalized storytelling and have filmed projects that align with the visual styles that I vibe with. I am also on-boarding a lot of creatives that have the love, passion and skills to pull off the ambitious feats of this film. That also share the love for the films that inspired this. I only want people who match my passion and want for this project, so that I can surround myself with creatives that only want the very best for this film. To make it the greatest it can possibly be.

- Hiring gym to practice fight choreography in.
- Art Department, helping to get props that will build scenes to resemble the era.

My love letter to the films I grew up with.
The Impact
Because everybody deserves the reminder that your dreams are worth fighting for. Even if the world has decided already who you are. Its a story that blends high energy action with a whole lot of heart, humour and music. But underneath it all, its about transformation.
I grew up on adventure films like this, martial art stories that balance the absurd with the fun and call of adventure. I found it sad to see this type of genre dwindling, so I wanted to create a love letter to the films that I grew up on. Not only that, but as an homage to my own journey as a creative. Sometimes life guides you down a path, sometimes, it also gives you a 90 degree turn; and thats not a bad thing.
Backing this also helps back the other creatives that connect strongly to this film. To tell a kickass story, a story that gets people excited, that reminds us why we tell stories in the first place. With your help, we can make it an unforgettable one.
My goal is to use this as a way to tell a greater story, to eventually make this into a feature film.
