The Project

We’re raising funds to support Pacific Connection Choir’s journey to the International Barbershop Harmony Society contest in Denver, USA. Representing Aotearoa and our Pacific communities on this global stage is about more than music—it’s about cultural pride, visibility, and creating new pathways for Pacific excellence in singing.

The Team

We are Pacific Connection Choir, a vibrant, award-winning chorus based in Porirua. Founded in 2019 we’ve since grown into a 74-strong intergenerational choir made up of predominantly Pacific singers who bring our languages, stories, and harmonies to life.

Co-Directed by Henrietta Hunkin-Tagaloa and Chad Va, we were joined in 2024 by Jeff Hunkin, adding further strength to our directing team. We are supported by an incredible team across Management, performance, visuals, uniforms, and cultural expertise —all working together to honour Pacific excellence.

Our choir represents the nations of Samoa, Tonga, Niue, Cook Islands, Tokelau, Kiribati, Fiji, Tuvalu, Aotearoa, Scotland, India, Italy, and the United States of America. We are grounded in cultural celebration, vocal excellence, and collective empowerment. Every note we sing is a tribute to our communities and the legacies we carry.

The Funding

We’re seeking support to help cover the essential costs of this trip. With 67 travelling members, many of whom are students or from big families, every dollar counts.
Your contribution will go toward:

  • Accommodation in Denver
  • Ground transport and logistics
  • Uniform and cultural attire
  • Rehearsal and workshop costs before departure

Every gift helps get us one step closer to the international stage.

The Details

In July 2025, we’ll travel to Denver to represent Aotearoa at the world’s biggest barbershop competition against the world's best groups. It’s a huge honour and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of our group, who were the first Pacific-based chorus to sing in Pacific languages on the international stage in 2023,  placing 8th in their first ever international appearance.

This trip involves more than singing - it's a platform to showcase the beauty of Pacific voices, shift narratives about who belongs in these spaces, and inspire the next generation of Pacific performers. Our rehearsals are already underway, and our focus is on being performance-ready while carrying our cultural roots with pride.

The Impact

This project is a milestone for music, youth leadership, and authentic representation of our Pacific cultures. Your support enables a group of artists to stand proud on a world stage, reshaping what barbershop and choral excellence can look and sound like. We’re not just taking our voices to Denver—we’re taking our languages, our stories, our pride.

By backing this campaign, you’re investing in Pacific futures, cultural excellence, and a community committed to lifting each other up in harmony.
