The Project

“Murder on the Dance Floor” brings to the stage the love/hate year 8 school Disco, where everyone’s too nervous to dance, rubbish food is served and the suspicious eyes of teachers glancing across the room ensure no ‘naughty business’ is being had.  But this is no ordinary Disco, a principal is accidentally murdered by three 13-year-old students.

Brought to you by recently graduated Te Auaha students; Corrie Milne (Director) and Maddi Barnes (Musical Director and Choreographer), the use iconic 2010 pop songs such as Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO, Disturbia – Rhianna, I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas and many more bring this script to life making sure it’s the next Jukebox Musical you don’t want to miss!

"Murder on the Dance Floor" is a love letter to our 13-year-old selves, embracing every beautiful, cringe and deeply embarrassing part of growing up.  This brilliant comedic cast delivers on high energy choreography and beautiful harmonies as taught by the multi-talented Maddi Barnes.  The cast effortlessly embodies the energy of an awkward year 8 disco.

Can the students hide the body before the Disco starts? Will they get to the Disco in time to grab an overly thin slice of pizza? Or will they be caught in the act?

‘Murder on the Dance Floor’ is an original experience that will leave you on the edge of your seats, whilst trying desperately not to sing along to those songs you shamefully know all the lyrics to.

We need YOU to help us reach our target, so this show can be seen by all, and full support can be provided to the cast and crew who are working tirelessly to bring this show to the 2025 NZ FRINGE Festival.

The Team

This project is brought to you by past and present Te Auaha students, the next generation of emerging artists from Pōneke.

  • Led by Corrie Milne; content creator/Director
  • Maddi Barnes; Musical Director/Choreographer lead an exceptional cast.

The Funding

The funds raised through this Boosted Campaign will help contribute to cover the operational costs that will be incurred during the duration of the rehearsal period (Jan 9 - Feb 12) and the show season (Feb 14 - 16).

This will cover items such as but not limited to:

  • Venue hire (rehearsals and show)
  • Sound equipment hire - head microphones and all associated equipment
  • Marketing costs - printing and distribution of posters, social media marketing through Facebook and Instagram Ads

Being able to cover these costs ensures that the show is able to garner the attention that it deserves across the wider Wellington region as well as making this the best possible show it can be.

The Details

What started as a Second Year Cabaret during Corrie and Maddie's studies at Te Auaha; "Murder on the Dance Floor" is a loose adaptation from the original concept that started as a creative outlet to write something fun with friends and has evolved into a love letter to their thirteen-year-old selves.

This jukebox musical is pure unadulterated fun and a celebration of everything that is cringy and embarrassing from their childhoods with the message to remind the audience that it is ok to find joy in all things embarrassing.

The Impact

Investing in emerging artists at the early stage in their career is a rewarding experience. Acting as a patron, investors often build strong personal connections with the artist, helping to shape their career as they embark on a journey of growth and discovery together.
