Mullet Festival III – Cosmic Debris
Mullet Collective | Multi Discipline
The Project
Kia ora koutou friends, art lovers and fellow space sailors. Once again, the subatomic planetoids have aligned and the Mullet Festival will resurface to part the great sea of cosmic debris. For one splendiferous afternoon, we will transform the Warrington Reserve north of Ōtepoti into a galaxy of creative flotsam and jetsam (yup, we're boldly mixing our sea and space metaphors). The audience will be guided around the reserve to enjoy dance, music, poetry, theatre, and visual art, followed by a shared picnic and musical entertainment – and it’s free for artists and audiences because our kaupapa is based on accessibility, inclusiveness and diversity. Viva la art for everyone!
For the last two years, we have run the Mullet Festival on the smell of a very small oily fish (of course, only metaphorically speaking – rest assured that no mullets were harmed in the making of this festival). Mainly, we have relied heavily on the generosity and goodwill of the participating artists as well as the wider community. This year, however, times have been pretty tough for many people and so we are seeking your help to cover some of the costs of the Festival. Your donation will go towards:
- Compensating the ten participating artists/groups for travel, materials and rehearsal time
- Providing shared kai for artists and audience as part of the closing celebration
With your support, we can bring back the beautiful mayhem of the Mullet Festival for a third time – and we're hoping it'll be a lucky one! ;)
