The Project
“Moments” is a three part micro-short film series created through Massey University as a Screen Arts Honours project.
The project consists of three short films following the same overarching storyline of the relationship between two people. Each part will be brought to life in a distinctive style and narrative approach, creating three separate, yet still connected, moments in the story of our couple.
Two people finding a connection on their daily commute.
A trip to the beach turns into a bizarre exhibition of what could happen (but probably not) in an attempt to overcome boredom.
- The reflection on a breakup and a night when time stood still.
In a classic beginning - middle - and end type of story we touch down at different points throughout the relationship between Violet and Des.

And as a thank you we will add your name to the credits of the films!
The Details
Our three films:
Train Connection:
Violet takes the same train every morning, with the amount of enthusiasm only repetitive early morning weekdays can evoke in a person. One day someone across the tracks catches her attention, and a silent bond is formed with the boy standing on the opposite platform.
Beach Trip:
The day takes an unexpected turn as a bored Des comes up with a game that is taken a little too far.
One of Those Nights:
A conversation takes place on a beach at night. Reflected in the moonlight on the water, a moment unanchored in time and space, Violet and Des walk on the sand and among the stars.
Created as part of a university honours research project, our goal is to explore the ways different styles and creative choices can combine to tell an emotive story.
We are interested in seeing how these vastly different films can evoke emotions and the impact they have on the audience's connection to the story.
The Impact
These films are focused on capturing a feeling rather than telling a cohesive story.
A feeling that is both relatable, yet completely unique.
We want to bring these feelings to life by exploring; realism and naturalism, and the rom-com genre in combination with absurdism, and cine-poetic experimentalism.
By experimenting with different narrative and visual styles, we hope to continue on our path to finding our unique, creative voices as filmmakers.
