Project Updates
We're nearly there!
Dear Supporters,
thank you so much for all your generous and heartfelt contributions over the course of this campaign so far. With 6 days left on the clock, we are now sitting at a fantastic 73% and we are working hard this week to push the bar up to 100% over coming days.
This is an all-or-nothing crowdfunding platform, meaning we only receive the funds if we reach the full target, otherwise the money will automatically be refunded to you. Rest assured, we're doing everything to keep your donations :)
How you can still help us over the coming days is to simply spread the word. If you are on social media, consider posting something about your support for "Milk of Dreams" and include the link to this page. Let others know you believe in this project and want to see it succeed. Whichever channels or mode of communications you use, your support will make the difference. (you can follow us on Instagram too, a link is on the Boosted page)
We look forward to hopefully reaching out to you with a celebratory update on 16th May when the campaign closes. We love having you on our team, thank you so much ! Xx Sarah
Thank you Team!
What a marvelous bunch you all are. We reached our funding goal and stretched even a little beyond! This means we now have all the funds we need to finish and polish "Milk of Dreams" to the highest standards and hopefully send each and everyone of you a postcard from Venice in a few months time :) It means a lot that you chose to support this film and all the talent in front and behind the camera without whom none of this would have been possible. A true team effort and we're proud to have grown our team by an incredible 75 people (THAT'S why the credits get long...you'll never leave the cinema early again we hope ;) - We look forward to keeping you posted on the progress from here, THANK YOU! Xx
Postproduction complete!
Kia ora Team,
a happy update from us, "Milk of Dreams" is officially completed and thanks to your support we were able to give the film a superb finish. It looking and sounding beautiful!
We have also created a film poster that we'd like to share with you below and we are now looking forward to sending the film on its festival journey around the globe. We're a little sad to say that Venice didn't select the film for this year's edition, with only 20 short films selected from hundreds of entries, we're in the company of fierce competition at those big A-Listers. It's all part of making a film and taking the festival roller coaster ride and we know that "Milk of Dreams" is such a unique and strong film that it will get picked up somewhere else stellar. We look forward to keeping you up to date on the progress!

Milk of Dreams - Update
Dear Supporters,
it's been nearly 2 years that we were able to finish "Milk of Dreams" with your help and financial support. For those of you that are following the film on our Instagram handle, you know that we finally cracked the festival circuit last year and enjoyed some beautiful screenings and successes in Colombia, Mexico and Italy. For those of you that keep a healthy distance to social media, here is a little insight into the journey:
It is a bit of a 'wild west' out there: These days, film festivals commonly get thousands of submissions when they can only programme a few dozen films.
With so many incredible films in the running, selection follows not only the quality of a film but also its suitability to themes and other curative elements that each festivals decides on individually. What you hope for as a filmmaker is that of the dozens of films the selectors view each day, your one stands out...and connects in particular with the person that has the last word on the final selection. Rejections are part and parcel of it all, the more special it feels when your film gets selected, based on its own merit.
I made this film more or less stubbornly dedicated to my firm belief that the work is always an act of collaboration with something unknown and bigger than yourself, and that the creative process is a fine calibration of my deeply personal vision with the inherent intelligence of the work itself. That's when something original and true happens and you get to marvel at a piece of work that feels both of you but also not from you.
I've had the chance to visit festivals in Colombia and Italy last year and engage with audiences and programmers. "Milk of Dreams" is hard to put into words and I am proud of that, otherwise...why make a film? I could just write what I have to say and save a lot of time and troubles. The film inspired beautiful meetings and conversations with people of all ages and walks of life. It allowed me to experience different cultures, world views and ways of perceiving life and our complex relationships with each other. I got to experience watching this film on the big screen together with my mum in Italy, which (given the nature of the film) was the most special experience, a kind of full circle.
I can share with you that of all the films I encountered out there, "Milk of Dreams" really is unique. And I am not saying that as a pat on my back, but as a testament to your support and belief in this project. Our world is changing so fast and the films and shows that we watch are in ever increasing ways influenced by technology and systems-thinking that cares less and less for its makers and their visions, but ever more for monetary value and success formulas to replicate.
Our varied ways of being and feeling are sold back to us in a homogenised soup of "content"...with little tolerance for ambiguity, nuances and a contemplative pace.
Making independent film has always been challenging and it's only getting more so. The film industry is going through a seismic change and films like "Milk of Dreams" will only become even rarer. But with your help, we made it and it will stand the test of time and always be a testament to something uniquely and fully human and I just wanted to give you all a big shout out. I still hope there'll be a NZ screening one day that I can share with you and invite you to. For now, it seems that the appetite and appreciation for this film lies overseas but I am hopeful that as all good things do, this one too will eventually return home. Warmest, Sarah
