Lights Camera Action

Lights, Camera, Action! is an upcoming short film about a crew of inexperienced student filmmakers who must test their morality after a light falls and kills their actress. The crew fall into a tangled web of accusations, guilt and lies, as they try and determine what really happened. But for those that are guilty, how far will they go to protect themselves? 

Our intention with crowdfunding through Boosted is to raise money to pay for prop making and food for our incredible and devoted cast and crew.

Hey! My name is Ben Spies and I am the writer and director of Lights, Camera, Action! I am a student at Massey University studying Film Production, and I aspire to be a director, an actor, and a director of photography. In 2025 I wrote, produced, edited, acted in and directed my first feature film called ‘40 Hour Fail’. It was a great experience and I learnt so much about filmmaking and about myself. I’m very excited to get into my next project, and I have a very talented team of people by my side. 

My name is Joa, and I am the producer of Lights, Camera, Action! I am a first year student at Massey University studying Film Production. I've worked on many other projects, both for myself and others, and I'm excited to work on LCA aswell!

Kia ora, my name is Leo Cromie and I am the DOP (director of photography) on Lights, Camera, Action! I am a second year film student at Massey University. I have a background in theatre and now recently I've been doing paid photography work for sport events. I am aspiring to become a cinematographer and also starting a videography business. I have worked on student films for the past 2 years and I am excited for Lights, Camera, Action!

We are raising money for food across our many shoot days, so we can keep our cast and crew well fed. 

We also need to raise money to pay for props. Lights, Camera, Action! will need a decent amount of props made, such as fake film equipment. 

Any leftover funds will be split evenly across the cast as a thank you for their hard mahi. 

Lights, Camera, Action! is going to be approximately 35 - 40 minutes long. This is a very big project that the cast and crew will be putting a lot of time and effort into. Through the time we spend making this film we hope everyone learns and expands their knowledge of filmmaking. We are all students and at the end of the day we want to make films to develop our creative practices and learn as much as we can. It's also about having a lot of fun, and making new friends. We want to deliver a final product that everyone can be proud of and put in their portfolios. 

As student filmmakers, we know how hard it is to make and publish a film while paying out of our own pockets. We want to show others like us that it's possible to make a great film without being in a big film studio. As stated in the "Your Project" section, it will also be very good for all our portfolios, which will help us later on in our careers.
