LEATHER LUNGS Son of a Preacher

We're two young Kiwis following our creative impulse and insatiable passion for the arts.

Together we want to bring a new and exciting genre (alternative cabaret) to the New Zealand arts scene and contribute to the development of arts in our country. We also want to take New Zealand works to the world, starting with Leather Lungs.

WHO ARE WE?

Jason Chasland (Writer/Performer): You'll recognise him as Andy from Auckward Love, NZ's award winning web series. Earlier this year he sung for Adele and performed his fifth season of his solo show of impressions, Impostar: Who Does He Think He Is?. Jason has performed at the Globe Theatre. The Listener describes him as "showstopping", GayNZ as a "phenomenon" and Theatreview as "gifted". www.jasonchasland.com.

Geoffrey Bryan (Creative Director): Is a lawyer turned creative, who's succumbed to his inner creative yearning and tossed in the briefcase for a trunk of splendours and an oily rag! This ex-corporate will never look back, but of course, will forever look at the fine print.

WHAT'S AHEAD OF US IN 2018?

Auckland Pride (Feb): taking the show home for the NZ debut for Pride, Jason performed in Pride 2017 with Impostar.

Midsumma Festival (Jan): we're proud to have a season in Victoria's premiere queer arts and cultural festival.

Adelaide Fringe (Mar): second biggest fringe in the world after Edinburgh, where we're thrilled to have secured a premiere venue!

WHERE YOU CAN HELP

We're putting our money where our mouth is and funding the majority ourselves, but producing three seasons isn't cheap, and at this stage isn't possible. We would greatly appreciate any and all help towards showcasing our work in NZ and OZ. It will mean that we can seize this fantastic opportunity.

Your donation will contribute towards ensuring (not us but) our musicians and helpers get paid, travel, design, tech, marketing and venue hire (and showing the Aussies what us Kiwis made of).

THE SHOW

"Leather Lungs: Son of a Preacher" is a delightfully daring cabaret about a boy turned man who crosses with religion and fist fights with sexuality. A master of falsetto and stiletto, Leather Lungs marries savage wit, outrageous innuendo and alien vocal range, to arouse you into a world of amusement, distraction and challenge. Songs include all time greats and of course, Son of a Preacher Man.
