Korero Maori ye ken
Iona Winter | Literature
Overview
Kia ora koutou,
My name is Iona Winter and I am an emerging writer of Scots/Irish/M?ori whakapapa. I live, write and work in Karitane and ?tepoti, Dunedin.
I've been invited to participate in the Edinburgh New Zealand Book Festival finale event 'Unbound'. There, representatives from UNESCO Cities of Literature will create a space to present their work. I am one of two writers going to Edinburgh from Dunedin and this event is an opportunity to introduce a contemporary bi-cultural voice to an New Zealand audience.
In my presentation, Do you speak the lingo? K?rero M?ori, ye ken? I explore the interplay between language, migration, place, whakapapa and wairua. Via storytelling, I will weave a mix of my M?ori and Celtic voices.
Ever the optimist, I reckon these opportunities come around rarely - like once in a lifetime - and have gratefully accepted the offer to present my writing at Unbound.
I'm asking you, my Boosted supporters, to help me with travel, accommodation and daily living expenses while I am in Scotland.
Below are links to my Wordpress and Twitter where you can follow me throughout this process.
Please share the aroha around, pass this on to anyone you think will be (even remotely) interested.
I need all the support I can get, and you will have my eternal thanks.
Ng? mihi nui, Iona x
