The Project
What if you had five hours left with the love of your life... and then you had to kill them?
Killing Time is a short film about chances not taken and the pain of never being able to take them.
This is set 6 months into the future; a virus has spread around the globe killing 70% of the population so far. The dead are walking and creating more dead to roam the streets.
But, this isn't a zombie movie, it's a love story.
The lead characters, Jessie and Mike, great friends who find themselves in an impossible situation. One of them has been infected and only then do they hear what they have been wanting to hear for years that the other is in love with them. One of them then discovers they were bitten escaping a hoard of zombies They then ask the impossible favour, that when they turn, they have to kill them, again.
Could you kill the love of your life, even if they were to become a blood thirsty zombie?
The Team
The Team
My name is Karl Fleet and I'm the writer and director of Killing Time. This is my final project at South Seas where I was supported by a super talented film crew to make this film over three days.
Our Production team consists of Matt Downey as Producer and Shayna Topia as our First AD, both are students at South Seas and have worked tirelessly alongside me throughout this project to help tell my story and bring the vision to life.
The Camera, Lighting, and Audio department was led by our DOP, Elie Kayrouz, who went above and beyond to craft the visual and technical style of the film. His team consisted of Griffin Kilfoyle as First AC, Cole Gates as Gaffer, Cameron Dwyer on Audio Mix and Johnny Wilton operating the Boom.
Laine Abrahams and Sam Page took on the two lead roles, they are both acting students at South Seas and spent countless hours working on their performances, crafting their characters and bringing KillingTime to life with an incredible on-screen presence.
South Seas is New Zealand’s leading film school and I want this to be one of the best films produced here.
Having just 3 days to shoot this 13 minute short, we assembled a team of over 40 people to help bring it all together, filming at Covert Theatre in Ponsonby and Corban Estate Arts Centre.
There are stunts, amazing looking zombies, a bit of blood, action and human connection. A film that wants to rip your heart out, not to eat, but to touch it in an emotional way.
The Funding
The film has been shot over three and a half days and is in the editing process.
Awesome!!!
This Boosted campaign is about taking Killing Time to the next level. To get time at a production house like the Department of Post and give the entire film a slick grade.
Then a day in an audio booth to craft the moans and groans and creaks of this Zombie apocalyptic world.
Then creating a plan to pay the entry fees to enter the film into film festivals and see if audiences will fall in love with a tragic love story.
The Details
Killing Time is a love story set in the backdrop of chaos and confusion. About chances not taken.
A virus has spread around the world, turning people into dead killing machines. They bite and eat anything they can grab. And in doing so, they pass on the infection. It's a vicious cycle.
In this chaos, Jessie and Mike, long time friends, finally admit their true feelings for one another, only to discover one of them only has five hours left before they die and turn. They then asks one of the toughest questions. Could you kill the love of your life if they were a zombie?
It's a doomed romantic horror story with slashes of comedy.
The Impact
By backing Killing Time, you are helping a great local film become an international contender.
It's helping take young talent to the world and show them that New Zealand is home to world class talent.
This project has been a labour of love for me to write, direct and create something epic. This has pushed me, and the results achieved have been worth the hundreds of hours of pre production and planning.
Can't wait to share it with the world in the best possible way!
What’s in it for you? Of corse bragging rights that you helped take this film to the next level. Many many thanks!
But we do like to share, so randomly we'll give out gifts/merch to donors at the end of the campaign. Things like signed posters, collectable cards, a Killing Time DVD case and a few zombie props from the film.
