The Project

Intindi is a story that confronts the stigma surrounding mental health, a topic even less traversed within a Kapampangan-Filipino family dynamic. We meet our main character Eivor at a critical time, just as she receives a referral to a psychiatrist. She must confront her cultural stigma and risk rejection in hopes of being understood by her loved ones.

The Team

Intindi is a project composed of passionate storytellers excited to create our final short film in Screen Production at AUT. Our team consists of three proactive screen students with a shared passion to create an emotionally resonant narrative.

Z Langit, our Writer and Director, adopts experiences from their own background, and aims to challenge perspectives.

Maanika Narsai, our Producer, is passionate about uplifting underrepresented voices within our media.

Liliana Nicolo, our DOP, has always enjoyed photography, and loves the art of cinematography.

All additional crew for Intindi is made up of fellow talented AUT Screen Production students. Our composers are Filipino musicians Basely and Noelle Nayon. Together, we aim to champion Filipino stories and empower young creatives in Aotearoa.

The Funding

Our production costs include:

  • Feeding Cast & Crew
  • Koha for Cast

The Details

Our film explores the complexities of parent-child relationships and it's overlap with mental health. Throughout the short film, Eivor hides behind a facade of normalcy while battling whether to tell their mum what they are going through, unequipped to approach the conversation.

Intindi was born out of the need to see Filipino values, especially kapwa (a deep sense of interconnectedness with others) reflected on our screens. While kapwa is vital to the close-knit Filipino community, it can cause difficulties for individuals to speak openly about their mental health struggles and ask for support.

Intindi aims to unpack these cultural norms by confronting the idea of hiya (shame), which often silences emotional vulnerability. Through Intindi, we want to help normalise difficult conversations, and ultimately bring families together.

The Impact

We hope by addressing the cultural stigma surrounding mental health within the Filipino community, this film will grow the representation of Filipino storytelling in Aotearoa’s screen landscape.

Beyond this, Intindi asks families from all walks of life, to build relationships where tough conversations are safe and supported.

Your support in creating Intindi will uplift young, diverse filmmakers to cultivate stories that we deeply care about. We are excited for the opportunity to share unique perspectives within Aotearoa and the rest of the world.

Any contribution to this project and the people behind it is greatly appreciated, it won’t be possible without your help. All donors will be given a credit of thanks on the film's end credits.
