Gus' Trip With The YSC To The Globe

On the 26th of June, I will be travelling to London to study Shakespeare at the globe theatre.  The trip in its entirety is an opportunity for me to study historical acting and gain valuable knowledge to help me enter the performance industry.

From nearly 4000 students competing in the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand regional and national Sheila Winn Shakespeare festivals, I was chosen to perform in the National Shakespeare Schools Production in Dunedin with 47 other students, and from there I was selected to be part of the Young Shakespeare Company alongside 23 other students, and our beloved Chief executive Dawn Sanders.

The trip in its entirety costs upwards of $11,000

I plan to work and pay off up to $7,000 out of my personal savings, and fundraise the remaining amount through Boosted and a fundraising concert. 

I will be learning the ins and outs of advanced Shakespeare acting, from professional globe theatre tutors. The sessions are practical rehearsals, gleaning knowledge from the text and picking up onstage techniques. There are also workshops, tours,  and other classes included in the trip, plus the added experience of performing on one of the worlds most famous stages.

I plan to study the arts and learn as much as I can about the history and the impact of acting and text. This opportunity connects me with a huge pillar of information at the heart of Shakespeare's legacy, and I want to share this with actors across New Zealand. I am a passionate performer and can guarantee spending a huge portion of my arts career giving back to the arts community through shared experience, and the YSC provides me with the perfect opportunity to do so.
