The Project
Gremlins is an independent creative platform created by and for the people of Ōtautahi. Championing the grassroots and underground communities in the 03, Gremlins bolsters the underpinnings of Ōtautahi that make it roar. Through journalism, music, art, photography, culture, and more, Gremlins aims to authentically capture the raw essence of Ōtautahi. We are partnering with Boosted Ōtautahi to reach out to the community to keep the gremverse going! We are looking to cover operational costs, event and workshop costs, printing costs, labour costs, website and software costs, and materials' costs.
The Team
Ella Gibson (Tangata Tiriti, she/her) is the co-founder and creative director of Gremlins. With a background in journalism, she saw the need for an independent collaborative platform created for and by those in Ōtautahi to connect and inform communities in the 03.
Kaspar Soltero (Tangata Tiriti, he/him) is the co-founder of Gremlins. Currently working on his PhD at the University of Canterbury, Kaspar is the technological fuel behind the Gremlins website and core visionary of Gremlins.
Austin Standeven (Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti, he/him) is the local gig guide legend. Well-entrenched in the local electronic and live music scenes, Austin facilitates the curation of the monthly Gremlins Gig Guides.
Ellie Bain (Tangata Tiriti, she/her) is a co-editor of Gremlins. With a fierce eye for detail, Ellie coordinates and polishes content to the highest of gremmilicious standards - elevating collaborators' mahi to its highest potential.
Maddi White (Ngāti Hako, they/them/ia) is a co-editor of Gremlins. A force to be reckoned with in the Ōtautahi queer nightlife scene, Maddi joins Ellie in the editing squad - fine-tuning content and supporting collaborators along the way.

The Details
A few local gremlins looked around and thought: 'where do we find out about the cool shit happening in Ōtautahi?' After the quakes, many of us felt disillusioned and disheartened about the city. But under the surface? Things were brewing; creatives, collectives, artists, scenes - all brewing, all underground. We realised that people needed a hub. Over the past year, Gremlins has been serving up the gremmy goodness - gig guides, events, stories - straight to Ōtautahi. We're here to shout about the stuff happening in the 03 - the shit to be excited about - and why Ōtautahi is where you want to be, rather than just somewhere you end up.
The Impact
The mahi that we do at Gremlins is merely for and by the people of Ōtautahi. We believe in the creative impact the Gremlins has on the community. With our core emphasis on accessibility to information through bridging gaps across disciplines and communities, Gremlins aims to bolster, support, and connect creatives, collectives, and inhabitants in the Ōtautahi.
