50% Boosted in 24 Hours!
Holy heck everybody! With your generous support, we've made it to 60% already. When we woke up today, we said if we could make it to $2,000 by 9am we'd have a big reveal. By 9:15am, we'd hit 50%!! You delivered (and then some) and so have we:
We will be launching a monthly Food Court Book Club, with our first meeting in-store in November (COVID allowing). We’ll be reading small press books from around the world. Signing up for the club means every month you’ll get a brand new book in your hands with no wait times for shipping and a pretty good guarantee it’ll be a book you haven’t already read. Also, there will be an optional monthly meet up in the store to discuss what’s been read. Imagine a book subscription service and book club rolled into one – all in support of small presses worldwide! These titles represent just a handful of the incredible indie publishers we can’t wait to familiarise you with!
80% in 4 Days
We said that if we reached 75% of our goal, we would make another announcement. After just 4 days, we've surpassed 80%!! We had hoped to get into the shop today to take some photos, but we got caught up speaking with presses and distributors about stocking their books! As a result, we thought we might share the names of some of the presses whose incredible books are already tucked away in our tiny storage nook at the back of the shop: Cold Hub Press, Beatnik Publishing, Paper Road Press, The Cuba Press, Mākaro Press, Bitter Melon Poetry (UK)... and we've been in touch with many more! We're enjoying the process immensely. And whether choosing books from individual presses online or in their offices, or dealing with distributors, we can say with certainty we are working hard to bring you the very best NZ has to offer.
100% FUNDED IN JUST 5 DAYS
We are going nuts over here! You beautiful 99 donors, you are amazing. We're currently sitting at $5,126 and we haven't even announced our stretch goal yet. This is a remarkable event for us, and real proof that our community is lit, that books and bookshops are not dead, and that New Zealanders DO want to read NZ-made fiction and poetry! We pledge to make you proud.
As promised, we'll be announcing a very exciting new project which will fit nicely into our bookshop. Well, it's more like a restart than an innovation. But we know you're going to love it! Thank you again for all your support and love. We couldn't be doing this without you.
