The Project

Flux is a coming-of-age short film about the quiet, gut-punch realisation that sometimes the friendships we cling to the hardest aren’t serving us the way we thought they would. It follows Vita as she navigates a chaotic night out, slowly coming to understand that her co-dependent friendship isn’t her whole world, and maybe it’s time to let go. Flux is about finding your own footing, even when it feels safer to keep holding on. We’re crowdfunding to help bring this story to life, supporting our cast, crew, and post-production so we can make a film that speaks to anyone who’s ever outgrown a friendship, but still loves the person. Your support will help us share Flux with audiences who know what it’s like to choose themselves for the first time.

The Team

Flux is being brought to life by a passionate, tight-knit team of emerging filmmakers dedicated to telling honest, character-driven stories.

Our director, Martine, is focused on exploring complex, often unspoken dynamics between people, especially within intimate friendships. Producer Hazel is the organisational backbone of the project, making sure everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Our director of photography, Ro, is driven to capture the raw, immersive visual style that makes Flux feel real and present.

We’re supported by a talented crew: Chris (1st AD), Isla (1st AC, editor & BTS), Jasper (Gaffer), Sonny (Sound) and many more amazing crew!

Our creative practice is grounded in collaboration, emotional honesty, and creating spaces where actors can bring their most authentic performances. Flux is a personal story for our team, and we’re excited to bring it to life with the care and heart it deserves.

The Funding

We’re raising funds to help cover the essential costs of bringing Flux to life. As a student-led, independent production, we’re committed to making this film with care, but we need your help to do it right. Your contribution will directly support the people and resources that make this project possible.

Where the Money Will Go:

  •  Catering – As all of our crew is unpaid we want to provide  nourishing meals and snacks to keep our cast and crew energised and passionate about the work throughout our long shoot days.
  • Production Design – Crafting lived-in, authentic spaces that ground the film’s world and make Vita’s journey feel tangible and real. As well as transport costs getting our cast and crew to and from our set safetly.
  • Paying Our Actors – We believe in fairly compensating our cast for their time and emotional labour in bringing these complex characters to life.

Every dollar goes directly to supporting the cast, crew, and the creative integrity of the project. Even small contributions make a huge difference to independent films like ours.

Thank you so much for helping us make Flux a reality. Your support means the world to us.

The Details

Flux is a short film about the slow, painful realisation that a friendship you’ve built your world around might not be enough anymore. It’s about co-dependency, growing pains, and the terrifying but necessary step of choosing yourself.

The story follows Vita, who leans heavily on her best friend Heart to navigate social spaces and feel grounded. Over the course of one chaotic night, Vita is forced to confront how much of herself she’s lost by clinging too tightly to this friendship. Flux isn’t about dramatic fallouts, it’s about the quieter, internal shifts that signal growth. It’s about recognising that sometimes, love and loyalty can still exist, even when a friendship no longer serves who you’re becoming.

We’re making Flux because we rarely see this kind of emotional landscape honestly portrayed on screen. Friendships, especially co-dependent ones, are often overlooked in favour of romantic or family-centred stories. Our team is passionate about exploring this nuance, the grey area where deep connection and personal growth can collide.

We want to create something that feels real, that speaks to people who have outgrown their safe spaces, who’ve sat with that uncomfortable ache of stepping into their own independence. This film is for anyone who’s ever asked themselves, "Who am I without them?" and realised the answer is someone worth knowing.

The Impact

Flux is a story that often goes untold. It’s about the kind of friendship break-up, or shift, that isn’t loud or dramatic, but still reshapes you. These moments are deeply personal and quietly universal. So many people, especially young adults, experience this feeling: outgrowing a friendship, realising you’ve built your identity around someone else.

We don’t often see these types of stories centred on screen. Films tend to focus on romantic love or family, but Flux is about friendship, the intensity, the comfort, the dependency, and the inevitable growing apart. It’s a narrative that deserves space, especially for people navigating their twenties, mental health, and their own self-worth outside of the relationships they’ve always relied on.

Backing Flux means helping create a film that speaks to those in the thick of this experience. It’s for people who have felt like they don’t quite belong in loud, chaotic spaces. It’s for people learning to let go. It’s a story that offers comfort, recognition, and maybe even a little clarity to people who are finding their way through the same thing.

Our community’s support isn’t just financial, it’s a chance to champion stories that reflect real, complex friendships and to help emerging filmmakers bring honest, meaningful work into the world.
