Fairies Playing Football

Fairies Playing Football is a wholesome comedy play designed for kids and parents to enjoy. It's about celebrating a strong wahine and gender diverse cast of fairies as they try to verse the Vermin of Wellwington to bring back football, getting up to lots of physical comedy shenanigans while doing it.

We're raising funds for:

• Making bug themed soccer balls
• Creating fairy wings and costumes
• Toadstools and faidy football goal making
• Rehearsal and show venue costs

Sarah Penny (Writer, Director) was inspired to writer this piece after attending multiple Women’s FIFA world cups matches in wellington in 2023, and wanted to create more representation of women and gender diverse people playing sports to inspire young kids to take risk and get involved. 

This piece has been created to help inspire particularly young girls to get active and involved in local sports and arts - by showing role models, as well as showcasing a wholesome, celebrated LGBTQ+ relationship between two of the female fairies in the show to add to the much needed LGBTQ+ representation in kid and family centered theatre and media.
